What Does CD Replication Mean?

During manufacturing of CDs, they are normally pressed from the glass master. That physical process of pressing them is what is called CD replication. Once they have been replicated, they are now referred to as either CD-ROM or CD-R. CD-ROM stands for CD with a read only memory while CD-R means a CD which is record able. When replicating the CD, the master glass which seems like a stamper creates tiny holes into the CD. A CD basically, contains aluminum on its reflective surface while the rest of its surface is polycarbonate.

CD replication makes the production process quicker in that you can produce more than 1000 CDs in a very short time. That way , you reduce even the cost of production because a large amount of CDs can be replicated at once. This process of CD or DVD duplication is very helpful in situations where large production is needed. Therefore if you are having an order of more than 500 CDs, you should go for replication but if your order is less than 500 and you want it done as soon as possible, you should opt for a duplication. Most CD users prefer a replicated CD mainly because of its low cost and the ability to play back.

For you to have a quality CD replication, you must use the silk screen with five colors to print your CDs. Again, the aluminum surface must be protected from contamination by oils, dust, or dirt. To achieve this, you use a clear substance which is durable to coat it. The final process involves testing the quality of the CD. If its standards are established as perfect, it is now ready to be used for recording data. Different companies use different packaging methods for shipment but the most common include wallet packages, case packages, digipaks and printed sleeves.
